AN INTERVIEW WITH WINEMAKER, TAYLOR WHELAN

A Story of Scarcity

We recently caught up with Winemaker Taylor to dive deeper into the land, learning more about the scarcity of Okanagan soil, bestowing a sense of place in our terroir-driven wines.

2020 Aspect Block 2 and 4 pinot noir
aspect member-exclusive | new vintage

Q. WHAT MAKES THE 2020 VINTAGE OF BOTH THESE PINOTS EXTRAORDINARY?

This season brought forth good fruit density and ripe tannins highlighting the true quality of this vintage requiring a gentler approach in the cellar. Our transition to organic practices have resulted in light, fresh flavour profiles in our Pinot grapes sourced from three acres in Block 2 and five acres in Block 4.

2020 PLATINUM HAYNES CREEK SYRAH
member-exclusive

Q. What is your top pick of the season?

My top pick of the season is our Syrah from Haynes Creek, a site situated on south-west facing slopes in South Okanagan. This cellar-worthy wine is 100% wild fermented with a chunk of whole bunch, highlighting a distinct tannin profile with a mineral mouthfeel.

2021 PLATINUM JAGGED ROCK CHARDONNAY
NEW VINTAGE

q.WHAT MAKES YOU EXCITED ABOUT THIS VINTAGE OF CHARDONNAY?

This white symbolizes what precision viticulture and meticulous winemaking is all about. I have to say this vintage is the best yet, perfectly resembling what the North Okanagan can achieve in terms of terroir.
